Foreign ministers who participated in the ASEAN Regional Forum in Singapore urged North Korea to fulfill its commitment to complete denuclearization during their Singapore talks in the last week, their chair statement issued Monday.
The 25th ASEAN Regional Forum(ARF), Singapore, this year’s chair of the annual regional forum, published its statement summarizing the foreign minister’s talks on Monday. The annual ARF is the sole regional forum in which the North’s top diplomat participates.
The statement reads “The ministers urged all concerned parties to continue working towards the realization of lasting peace and stability on a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.”
“They also urged the DPRF to fulfill its stated commitment to complete denuclearization and its pledge to refrain from further nuclear and missile tests,” it emphasized.
The statement also observed that the ministers who took part in the Regional Forum welcomed the April 27th and May 26th inter-Korean summits at the border truce village of Panmunjom and the June 12th Singapore summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
However, many Foreign ministers expected to include the term, ‘complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization (CVID)’ in the chairman’s statement but it was dropped out because of reflection of Pyongyang’s aversion.
