Hyundai Engineering & Construction has established reputation as a socially contributing enterprise.

Hyundai E&C was awarded the ‘2018 Grand Prize in Seoul City Social Contribution’ jointly with the Jongno General Social Welfare Center in recognition of its promotion of social contribution to the Jongno region at the Seoul City Social Contribution Prize Ceremony recently held in the Seoul City Hall.

This is the first ever prize awarded to a construction company. Hyundai E&C said this prize recognized its constant activities of sharing and improving residential environments for local residents and 2,000 underprivileged people of the Jongno region.

Hyundai E&C has been involved in social contribution activities for the local area for the longest time among the companies located in Jongno-gu.

Every year 500 of its employees participate in activities such as housing environment improvement and support of heating and nutritional food for the elderly in the regions of Changsin-dong, Sungin-dong and Gahoe-dong, Jongno-gu, support of lunch box for underprivileged children, scholarship support for youth education, and urban beautification of the Bukchon region.

Last month, Hyundai E&C was also awarded a ‘Platinum’ prize, the highest honor, at the prize ceremony for the Excellent CSR Enterprise hosted by the Philippine Embassy and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The prize was awarded in recognition of its activities for local residents in 4 deprived areas including Rodriguez and Cordova such as construction of schools and health centers, and supply of solar lanterns since 2012.

Moreover, also in last month, the Hanoi People’s Committee in Vietnam awarded Hyundai E&C the ‘Recognition Certificate’.

This is a result of its efforts between 2015 and 2017 to upgrade construction industry in the Hanoi region, by supporting the Vietnam Hyundai KOICA Dream Center that allowed the provision of good quality construction training to the young generation in Vietnam, improving their incomes, creating jobs in the construction sector, and strengthening the construction site safety through proper safety trainings. Hyundai E&C is the first Korean company to be awarded this honor.

In fact, Hyundai E&C trained c.a. 730 local workers in the construction sector, and hired 310 of those trainees, which led to a 1.8 fold increase in the trainees’ income.

A source in Hyundai E&C said, “We have been trying to fulfill our responsibilities as a global corporation such as long-term social contribution activities for local communities at home and abroad”, and “Also in the future, we will continue our social contribution activities that seek mutual benefits based on communications with local residents in the region where we are working.”

현대건설, 글로벌 사회공헌 결실…국내외서 관련 수상 잇따라

현대건설이 글로벌 사회공헌 기업으로서의 명성을 쌓고 있다.

현대건설은 최근 서울시청에서 열린 서울시 사회공헌 대상에서 종로 지역사회에 사회공헌을 추진한 성과를 인정받아 종로종합사회복지관과 공동으로 '2018 서울시 사회공헌 대상'을 받았다.
이는 건설업계 최초 수상이다. 현대건설은 종로 지역사회 주민들과 소외계층 약 2000명에게 지속적인 나눔 활동과 주거환경 개선 등을 진행한 공로를 인정받았다고 전했다.

현대건설은 서울 종로지역 소재 기업 중 가장 오랜 기간 해당 지역을 위한 사회공헌 활동을 해 왔다.

매년 500여명의 직원이 참여해 종로 창신·숭인동·가회동 어르신의 주거환경 개선 및 난방 지원, 영양식 지원, 결식아동 도시락 지원, 청소년 교육 장학지원, 북촌지역 도시미관 개선 등을 시행했다.

현대건설은 또 지난달 필리핀 대사관과 대한상공회의소가 주관하는 우수 CSR 기업 수상식에서 제일 높은 등급인 '플래티넘' 상을 수상했다.

지난 2012년부터 로드리게스, 코르도바 지역 등 4개의 낙후된 지역에서 학교와 보건소 건립 및 태양광 랜턴 보급 등 지역 주민을 위한 활동을 지원한 공로가 인정됐다.
아울러 베트남에서도 지난달 하노이인민위원회에서 수여하는 'Recognition Certificate' 표창장을 수여받았다.

2015년부터 2017년까지 현대건설이 베트남 현대 코이카 드림센터를 지원해 베트남 청년들에게 양질의 건설 교육을 강의하고 학생들의 소득 증대, 건설 분야 고용 창출, 건설 안전교육을 통해 현지 건설현장 안전 강화에도 힘을 쓴 결과다. 국내 기업으로는 처음이다.

실제 현지에서 약 730여명의 건설 분야 인력을 양성했고, 교육 수료자 중 310명이 고용으로 확대돼 평균 1.8배의 학생들의 소득 또한 증대된 바 있다.

현대건설 관계자는 "국내·외에서 지역 사회와 함께하는 사회공헌 활동을 오랜 기간 동안 다각적으로 진행해오는 등 글로벌 기업으로서의 사회적 책임을 다하고 있다"며 "앞으로도 현대건설이 진출한 지역에서 지역 주민들과 소통을 바탕으로 상호 발전할 수 있는 길을 모색하는 사회공헌 활동을 지속할 계획"이라고 말했다.
