SPC Group has been tallying their social contribution activities since 2000, and it announced on May 30th that giving of ‘SPC Happy Fund (2000 million won)’ collected from all the SPC employees to a medical welfare foundation for the disabled ‘The Purme Foundation’ on May 29th has made the cumulative amount exceed 100 billion won.
The social contribution activities of SPC is directly led by Mr. Huh Young-In (69, picture), the Chairman & CEO of SPC Group who emphasizes the ‘management philosophy of coexistence and sharing’. The amount of breads that SPC Group has given to nationwide social welfare facilities through food banks is worth 6.8 billion won, and its number exceed 100 million pieces. SPC explained that 27 round trips between Seoul and Busan are possible if a single line is formed with these breads.
Mr. Huh has been running the "SPC & Soul Happy Bakery Class", which provides vocational education on confectionery and bakery for people with disabilities, since April 2012 to create jobs for the disabled, and launched the 'Happy Bakery & Cafe', a bakery brand operated by employees with disabilities together with the Purme Foundation in September 2012. SPC Group provides facilities, funds and training of baking skills, and gives know-how of franchise operation for this.
Mr. Huh is also running a scholarship project to provide a support of 50% of the tuition fee for 200 selected part-time university students working at SPC Group stores every year (100 per semester). He launched the SPC Happy Volunteers in 2012, in which all the employees participated in to be more systematically engaged in social contribution activities.
Employees support rehabilitation and emergency surgery costs for 600 disabled children through the SPC Happy Fund, to which they donated a certain amount of monthly salary voluntarily.
