- Genetic analysis data will be distributed through a blockchain based platform.
Gene Information (CEO Dr. Michelle Yang), a healthcare start-up company, announced the launch of 'GIF ON Platform', a blockchain based global genome information sharing platform at the Samjung hotel in Seoul on June 25.
Dr. Michelle Yang, a doctor of Biotechnology, Korea University, also held position of CEO of Gene Information, conducted a lecture to discuss genome research process and platform, which was held for the second time following the first presentation on June 18, 2019.
"The genome is a combination of gene and chromosome, which contains the entire genetic information of a living organism. Genetic data is obtained through the analysis of specific genes or genomes, this information can be used to predict, diagnose and treat diseases", doctor said.
Dr. Michelle Yang also added, "There are 100,000 genome projects in the UK as typical genomics projects. We are currently organizing the Genome England Clinical Interpretation Partner (Ge CIP) to collaborate with researchers around the world providing BAM / VCF files among the entire whole genome decipherment data from patient-generated genomes from 13 genome centers."
"The first genomic analysis technology was invented in the 1980s and did not perform any significant technological progress until the mid-2000s. However, after entering into the era of next-generation genome analysis (NGS technology) in 2006, the genome analysis industry has the fastest technological growth in human history."
"The future volume of the market for whole genome data related to the global data market is expected to be more than 20 times greater than semiconductor one. Using blockchain technology, we will build a platform that enables precise prediction, treatment as well as precise inspection for anyone in the world."
As a chairman of Gene Information Group Edward Yeum said, "Gene Information is a genome-based personal disease management and life cycle-specific health information analysis company, which established in 2019 and will distribute genome analysis results through the blockchain based platform. While building a genetic information bank system based on decentralized storage, we plan to provide optimal stability for individual genome information sharing."
"Gene Information aims to establish an environment and system in which large-scale genomic information can be circulated. In order to smoothly conduct the analysis of millions of genetic data, it is required to coordinate genetic data analysis service companies in such countries as Hong Kong, USA, South Korea as well as the UK. Moreover, we are in the process of establishing a GIF Alliance by combining genetic analysis companies, medical institutions and genetic research institutions worldwide."
Meanwhile, Dr. Michelle Yang has recently participated as a speaker of the 2019 Digital Health Scientific Conference in Houston, US with the theme of "Sharing Genetic Information" and obtained great feedback from the participants.
